A Newly Developed Tool for the Post-Processing of GPR Time-Slices in A GIS Environment

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a precious and reliable research tool broadly used in archaeology because of its capacity to produce three-dimensional data about features preserved underground, such as buildings, infrastructures, burials, well building rubble. GPR (time-slices) management exploitation Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mostly limited the visualization manual interpretation mapping separate single time-slices. This study presents newly developed plug-in designed automatically post-process time-slices GIS environment, identify anomalies, synchronic view them. map product, when combined with DTM, results 2D subsurface anomalies which shows absolute height above sea level, thus offering comprehensive configuration identified. The paper illustrates pixel-based processing chain tests carried out case Roman town Falerii Novi (Italy), on basis high-resolution open access recently collected by University Cambridge Ghent.
